One of the best habits you can develop is putting on the Armor of God the very first thing every morning. This is spiritual armor, so you put it on by prayer in faith.

The best way to explain this is to walk you through a daily prayer routine you can easily follow.  Certainly, there are other prayer techniques for putting on the Armor of God – the Apostle Paul didn’t leave directions. The main thing is that you put it on before daily challenges, scheduled busyness, social media, and demonic opposition cause distraction and turmoil!

Each prayer point has two parts – the Scriptural focus (bold) and how you can personalize the prayer (italics):

  • Good morning, Lord.  Thank you for assuring me of victory today.  By faith, I choose to follow Your battle plan and prepare myself according to Your word.  I claim victory over satan, my own sin nature, and the world systems by putting on the whole armor of God.
  • By faith I put on the Helmet of Salvation – that You will protect my thinking.  Enable me to keep my mind focused on You, so satan will not have any strongholds in my thoughts.  Thank You for saving me, forgiving me, protecting me, and healing me. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to live in me. Holy Spirit, I surrender my will and my thoughts to You today. I choose to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
  • By faith I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness – that You will protect my emotions – how I feel and react to today’s challenges.  May it guard my heart from evil, so I will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus.  Today, I am committed to doing what is right. I pray that I would be your faithful disciple who does what is right regardless of who might be watching or what it might cost. Allow the righteousness of Christ to shine through me to others.
  • By faith I put on the Belt of Truth – that You will enable me to know the difference between truth and error – right and wrong – in every area of my life.  May I stand firm in the truth of Your Word, so I will not be a victim of Satan’s lies, deception, traps, and compromises.  Renew my mind to what is true. Fill me with Your truth. Expose in my heart the lies that I am tempted to believe. The truth is that You are the sovereign God who loves me, cares for me, heals me, and protects me. The truth about me is that I am your adopted child – bought, paid for, and redeemed by the precious blood and sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. Nothing can separate me from Your love!
  • By faith I put on the Boots of Preparation (the Shoes of Peace) – that You will enable me to stand firm today on the Good News of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through me and be a light to everyone I encounter.  Empower me to face anything that comes against my way.  I am available to You. Use me in the lives of others. I pray that I would accurately represent You in my thoughts, speech, decisions, and actions. Make me a calming presence everywhere I go.
  • Father, I take up the Shield of Faith – I am going to trust You in every aspect of my life.  May I be ready for Satan’s fiery darts of doubt, denial, deceit, and compromise, so I will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat.  My faith is in You alone.  Apart from You, I can do nothing.  In You, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Everything that comes against me must come through You, for I am in You.  Jesus, as you walked without sin on the earth, live without sin through me today.  By faith, I claim victory over any active strongholds in my life.  I wish to acknowledge them (name them, if known) to You.  I rebuke lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the pride of life as well as the sin issues these flaws create in me. I am truly and genuinely repentant for allowing these things to influence me in any way.  Lord God, I ask You to set me free of these sources of bondage by the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through me.  I gratefully accept that it is done according to Your Word.
  • By faith I take up the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.  Through Your Word, I am going to check everything that comes my way to see if it fits with who I am in Christ Jesus and Your will for my life. May the two-edged sword of Your Word be a ready weapon in my hands so that I can expose and resist the tempting words of Satan. Through your Word, Lord, enable me to recognize and withstand all spiritual attacks.  I boldly declare the truths of Your Word over myself, my spouse, my children, my extended family, my friends, my associates, my neighbors, my partners, my circumstances, and my life.
  • Father, I want to walk in communion with You today.  Your Word says that through praying always and faithfully reading Your Word, I will have relationship with You. Enable me to pray in the spirit and with understanding, according to your Word. Help me to accurately discern and obediently follow Your will for my life today!  Thank you for the honor and privilege of serving in Your kingdom.  Thank you, Jesus, for being my best friend!
  • Lord, I go now rejoicing that You have chosen me to represent You to this lost world.  May others see Jesus in me and my responses to every situation.  May Satan and his hosts shudder as Your power is manifest through me.  I give You all the praise, honor, and glory!  In Jesus’ name I pray with joy and thanksgiving.  AMEN.

NOTE:  Praying in the Spirit is an integral part of putting on the Armor of God – not just an afterthought or religious exercise.

Ephesians 6:18 – Pray passionately in the Spirit, as you constantly intercede with every form of prayer at all times. Pray the blessings of God upon all his believers. (Passion Translation)
